Community Based Tank Management Programme
Supported by Irrigation & CAD

 

The above program was sanctioned by Irrigation and CAD Department Govt. of A.P. The Program aimed at achieving community participation for Tank Restoration and Agriculture and livelihood support to the farming community. The Water User Associations (WUA) in Sancham, Kotapalem of Ranastalam Mandal, Budathavalasa, Ch Murapaka, Gurugubilli, Thamada of Laveru Mandal, Davalapeta, Santhavuriti, G. Kancharam of G. Sigadam Mandal and Aguru, Nandabalaga of Rajam Mandal were allotted to YCB for capacity building and generation of awareness on community management and strengthening of water user associations.

Kalajathas were performed in these 11 Villages and Generated awareness among farmers and dependents on tank water. We Conducted agriculture demonstrations in farmer’s fields on SRI Cultivation and new improved crop management practices. Kisan Melas were organized to disseminate information on modern agri-technology among farmers. Veterinary Medical Camps were organized in these 11 Villages to cater to the Medical needs of cattle population. Capacity building was given to WUAs Managing Committees and sub-committees. Para Workers were identified and given training on 3 aspects i.e. social mobilization, agriculture and civil works in order to support WUAs. Tank improvement and management plans were approved by the Department of irrigation and CADA. Civil works were started with the participation of Water User Associations.

 

Empowerment of Disabled Persons:


YCB have continued support to disabled persons. YCB focused its efforts for the empowerment of disabled persons in remote villages of Laveru Mandal. YCB started promotion of SHGs for disabled persons during 2004-05 and continued its efforts during last year also. It has promoted 15 SHGs during the last 3 years. Proper training has been given to SHG leaders on management issues and book keeping. The disabled children were admitted in schools in their vicinity and the children with difficult physical disabilities were admitted in special schools.

As part of vocational training we have given training on Dairy management and Sheep Rearing to 20 disabled persons. These SHGs were linked with Indira Kranthi Patham program sponsored by Government of A.P and Commercial institutions for Scheme assistance. These SHGs were also linked with milk collection centers of Sri Vijaya Visakha Dairy in these villages.

 

FREE Homeo Medical Services


This program was started during 1985 with a motto to Serve Rural people by extending free medical services. Homeo Services were continued during the past 21 years. This year also the clinic extended its best services to the rural poor with the support extended by the world Teacher Trust, Visakhapatnam which was founded by Kulapathi Ekkirala Krishnamatcharya and receiving global reputation under the dynamic leadership of its international chairperson Master K. Parvathi Kumar.

 

Eye Care Services:


YCB has been implementing the scheme “Prevention and Cur ration of Blindness” in the target villages of 5 Mandals i.e. Ranastalam, Laveru, Etcherla, Ponduru and G. Sigadam in Srikakulam District for the last 24 years. In the process of implementation it took the cooperation extended by the Rotary Nethra Eye Hospital, Saripalli (Vishaka District) and OEU Lions Eye Hospital Sriramnagar. During the reporting year we have organized 10 Eye screening camps and identified 280 patients for surgery. These patients were admitted in the above hospitals on a phased manner and there they were undertaken IOL surgeries. The treatment, spectacles, surgery and medicines were provided to patients free of cost. But we are planning to start charging of some amount from the patients those who can afford for meeting the expenses, since the hospital authorities are expecting a part of expenditure from our organization. Till to date our organization is mainly depend on local contributions for meeting the expenditure relating to screening camps and conveyances of patients and motivation.

    
The hospital authorities conducted the surgeries to patients and provided required medicine and spectacles also free of cost. In order to accelerate the progress of the program we are expecting mite from philanthropic persons and organizations.

 

Organizing Veterinary Camps:  


During the year 3 veterinary camps were organized with the cooperation of the department of veterinary services. 2460 cattle population was undertaken in these camps and extended treatment by expert doctors for infertility and other diseases. The cattle population was given anti vermin tabs and administered vaccine also.

 

Awareness Generation on Vermin Compost


During the past 5 years YCB has been conducting a good number of awareness generation camps in 40 target villages to create awareness on Bio pest control, Bio Fertilizers among farmers community. During the year a mother unit of vermi compost was prepared in the premises of YCB in order to show the practical results to the farmers. The project is sponsored by the Department of Agriculture. It was continued in the present year also.

 

Propaganda on Judicious Use of Pesticides and Chemical Fertilizer

Our organization has been selected by the CNRI – New Delhi for implementing awareness program on Agriculture based activities in 30 villages of Laveru Mandal with the support of APG Group. 2 volunteers were given orientation and training for 5 days at training and development center – Hyderabad. The program aim is to make sensitize the 1500 farmers on Judicious use of Pesticides and Chemical Fertilizer.
