Executive Summary
Youth of Club of Bejjipuram is a Non Secular, apolitical organization promoted by 20 elite, committed and educated youth in the year 1980, inspired by the Gandhian philosophy of rural reconstruction through Non-violence and Grama Swarajyam. The aim of the Organisation is to fulfill the Human Values by serving the needy, downtrodden and under privileged sections of the Society and inculcate the culture of Mutual Co-operation, Self Help, Self-respect and Mutual Aid in order to cherish the objective of People’s empowerment.
Youth Club of Bejjipuram had focused its emphasis on the basic needs of the village communities in erstwhile Ranasthalam Block in Srikakulam district. It has been followed the path laid by Swamy Vivekananda and Master Ekkirala Krishnamacharya and many saints of the present era for establishing good fellowship and ethical values among target communities.
YCB always stays close to the heart of the communities. Community needs are assessed in a participatory manner. Channeling the youth force to rural reconstruction, YCB has extended its sensible support to communities for their socio-economic empowerment during the last 29 years.
Srikakulam is one of the poverty stricken districts of Andhra Pradesh from where we observe lot of migration. YCB has chosen Srikakulam consciously to serve the poor in the district. Presently YCB is working with 7719 families in 28 Mandals and 5 Muncipalities (Urban Areas) of Srikakulam District in Andhra Pradesh State, India. The beneficiary families consists of Artisans, Women SHGs, Farmers, High Risk Groups i.e. Female Sex Workers, Male Sex with Male (MSMs) and Trans Gender (TGs) and HIV Infected and Affected Children.
YCB’s most promising approach is to promote and strengthen the Community Based Organizations with different communities. Microfinance is one very important programme of the organization which promoted 320 strong, vibrant women SHGs with a total membership of 4800 and 2560 Women were networked into 16 viable women Mutually Aided Co-operative Societies (MACS).
Health is the top most priority and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) aim to end the ill-health of Millions of Poor across the Globe. YCB is implementing variety of health programmes among which HIV/AIDS prevention programmes takes priority of the organizations’ current programmes. YCB has been providing Home and Community based Care & Support services to 342 among 482 Identified children affected and infected by HIV/ AIDs in 2 urban areas, 2 Rural Mandals under a project name CHAHA (Balasahayoga).
YCB with the financial assistance from HLFPPT is implementing SWAGATHI and NESTAM projects in 28 Mandals and 5 Urban Areas of Srikakulam district. The FSWs and MSMs were organized in to CBOs and those are provided with required HIV/AIDS prevention measures using Community Lead Structural Intervention (CLSI). Targeted interventions are showing better and better results. The Behavior Change Communication (BCC), condom promotion, clinical services, referral Services, and advocacy services are aggressively implemented with the proactive participation of FSWs and MSMs.
YCB has developed a resource team in different sectors like community mobilization, community organization, entrepreneur development, water conservation, sustainable agriculture, Non formal education, community health, agriculture and Anti-trafficking. With Its high levels of accountability and transparency, YCB maintains very good relationship with different Government departments and other NGOs in the district. The experiences of YCB are very much useful to many similar organizations in the sector. The details of the interventions are detailed in the subsequent part of this annual report. The annual report is structured such a manner that the programme wise results and experiences were presented for the benefit of wider audience.
